Precious Things

The idea for this treasure cabinet arose while I was doodling furniture designs, as I often do.  After developing an interesting sketch of a cabinet, I decided to make a scale model before constructing a full-sized piece of furniture.

I’ve worked as a model maker for the past 10 years, so I put a lot of love and time into the crafting and detailing of this model.  And while I was working on it, I got to thinking about how, over time, we collect small things that take our fancy and we also get given small treasures.

One small gift I gave my partner lives in an oversized draw along with his passport and other documents – a place he laments is not fitting for a treasured item.  I began to see the potential of this model as a receptacle for small precious things.  It eventually turned into a beautiful small cabinet where my partner could keep his personal treasures.

I really enjoyed designing and crafting this piece, and will be exploring different designs, sizes, and configurations as the inspiration comes.  I’ll post photos of the treasure cabinets as I craft them, so check in to see how the family expands.
